Windows Protection Error Windows 98
Ok, so I'm having a small issue with PCem. I've.suprisingly. figure out how to get the hard drive to be set up, but now I ran into a issue. My Windows 98SE CD (which would usually be bootable from most systems, including my Pentium 3 board, i was going to test Windows 98 to see how well PCem would perform)) is not bootable from the BIOs. I installed updates on Windows 98 for a user, and upon reboot received a 'Windows Protection Error, Please Restart Your Computer'. I have never seen this before, and cannot boot to the OS. This computer did have a lot of spyware and was running a special Database program that connected to a Windows 2000 Server.

I got a new board (Epox 8k3a+), CPU (Athlon XP) and memory (256 mb pc2700 ddr) last night. Everything installed smoothly. There were no problems until I decided to go to Windows update, and download the latest updates. I downloaded a critical update pack, new certificates, and some other small files (I dont recall which ones, and I am at work right now).
During the installation, I got a bluescreen with a fatal error. It said that I may be able to continue, and to press a key to try, so I pressed a key. The installation window came back up, and installation finished, and asked me if I wanted to restart. I clicked yes. The machine then froze, and would not shut down. I then turned the machine off at the switch, and turned it back on. The machine POSTED ok, and started to load windos. I got the Windows 98 screen, and then the screen went black, with the message 'Windows protection error. You need to restart your computer.'
So, I restarted, and got the same error. The machine will go into safe mode, but will not go into normal mode. When I try to go into normal mode, I get that same message.
I am assuming that the cause of the problems is one of the updates I downloaded. Is there an easy way to uninstall these things? Is there another way to fix this? Could it be something besides the updates?

When a Windows Protection Error is received after changing the software or hardware on a computer, the first thing to do is reboot the computer, and enter Safe Mode. While in Safe Mode it is also a good idea to run your anti-virus program to clean up any viruses, which may be present. Then, reboot the computer and see if the Windows Protection Error recurs.
